This year's budget, set for Wednesday 26 November, could produce some sizeable changes to taxation for doctors. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has faced a stagnant UK economy with inflation stubbornly higher than planned for.
The government has also had to U-turn on some key benefits policies, which means that the money flowing into the Treasury is insufficient to cover expenditure, and Reeves has already set out the need to raise tax in the budget. Labour's manifesto at the last election said that they would not increase income tax, National Insurance or VAT rates, which limits where tax can be raised from.
