Former GP and medical educator Dr Rachel Morris talks about creating her popular podcast and offers advice for overwhelmed clinicians - including why staying in your 'zone of power' is key to avoiding burnout.

Dr Rachel Morris worked as a GP for more than a decade before starting a podcast dedicated to helping other medical professionals avoid what she saw as a growing crisis in medicine: overwhelm and burnout.

The name of her podcast, You are NOT a Frog, was inspired by a 2016 paper in the British Journal of General Practice that compared GPs to the proverbial frog in a pot – unaware that they are being boiled alive due to the steady but slow rise in temperature.

Morris was convinced it didn’t have to be like this. “You didn’t spend years at medical school only to end up in a role that stopped you from enjoying your life,” she concludes on her website.
