AI discharge summaries could lose critical patient data, doctors warn

Senior doctors have raised concerns that using artificial intelligence to write discharge summaries could result in the loss of clinically relevant information, potentially compromising patient care and safety.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is currently piloting the AI-assisted discharge summarisation (AADS) as part of the UK government's AI Exemplars programme to speed up patient discharge processes and free up hospital beds.
