Alzheimer's-related brain changes progressed up to 20 times faster in women who also had abnormal levels of a Parkinson's-related protein, say researchers who did not find the same pattern in men.

The finding could explain why women have a higher burden of Alzheimer’s disease and could have implications for how clinical trials are set up, the researchers report in JAMA Network Open.
