Children with type 1 diabetes at ‘significantly higher risk of mental health issues’

Children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes are more likely to develop a range of mental health conditions including mood disorders and anxiety, research has shown.

The analysis also found this “diabetes distress” is unlikely to be explained by a linked underlying biological mechanism – such as fluctuations in glucose control – but is associated with the impact of living with the condition.
