Clinicians need training to identify medical devices prone to bias - review

Medical devices that are prone to unfair biases, including pulse oximeters, need to be reviewed "as a matter of priority" to prevent harm to ethnic minorities and women, according to a report.

The Independent Review of Equity in Medical Devices looked at the extent and impact of ethnic and other unfair biases in the performance of devices commonly used in the NHS, and has made a number of recommendations.
