An international study has shown a novel oral antibiotic effectively treats uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea, offering a potential new weapon as resistance to existing treatments rises globally.

The phase 3 trial, published in The Lancet, compared a single dose of zoliflodacin against ceftriaxone injection plus oral azithromycin.
