CSF flow may explain link between cardiovascular risk and dementia

Abnormal flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain may help explain why cardiovascular problems increase the risk of dementia, according to new findings using UK Biobank data.

The researchers suggest that problems with the brain’s fluid clearance system, or the glymphatic pathway, could be a key factor linking vascular injury, metabolic disease and neurodegeneration.1
