Day surgery needs to increase by 40% by 2029 to clear elective backlog, conference hears

Day surgery rates will play a “key part” in tackling the current healthcare crisis and need to expand significantly over the next 5 years, a conference has heard.

The number of day surgery (DS) cases need to increase by 40% by 2029 to reduce the current backlog for elective surgery, Mr David Bunting, president of the British Association of Day Surgery (BADS), told delegates at the Acute and General Medicine conference.
