A doctor initially suspended after a tribunal found he had raped a woman has been struck off following a successful appeal by the General Medical Council.

Dr Aloaye Foy-Yamah received a one-year suspension after the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing in 2024 concluded he had attacked a guest staying at his Blackpool home.

In November, a High Court judge upheld an appeal from the GMC over the decision not to remove him from the register, finding it was wrong to conclude he did not pose a risk to the public.

Following this, the case was sent back to the MPTS for a new hearing which decided Foy-Yamah could pose a future risk to women and removed him from the medical register.

The GMC welcomed the tougher sanction. “There is no place for sexual misconduct in healthcare,” spokesperson said.

“We maintained that Dr Aloaye Foy-Yamah posed an ongoing risk and should be struck off the medical register to protect patients and uphold confidence in the profession.”
