Doctors remain legally liable for patient harm caused by AI errors, even when the technology malfunctions, legal experts have warned.

Medical defence organisations say clinicians cannot rely on faulty AI as a defence in negligence cases and must treat the technology as "just another tool" to be used within accepted clinical practice.
