Doctors ‘not accountable’ for decisions and actions of associates, says GMC

Doctors are “not accountable” for the decisions and actions of physician associates and anaesthesia associates they supervise, provided they have delegated responsibility in line with standards and guidance, the General Medical Council has said.

In the GMC’s latest update on its preparations to regulate PAs and AAs later this year, it said supervision was not a “one-size fits all approach”.
