A number of doctors across the UK have been recognised for their contribution to medicine in the King’s New Year Honours list.

Dr Lishman's DBE for services to medical examiner system and patient safety

Dr Suzannah Claire Lishman CBE is a consultant histopathologist and medical examiner who has been made a Dame Commander of the Order of the Brtish Empire (DBE) for services to the medical examiner system and to patient safety.

Her work has been instrumental in developing the medical examiner system across England and Wales, a key patient safety initiative designed to improve the scrutiny of deaths and ensure families' concerns are properly addressed.

Dame Lishman, who has worked at Peterborough City Hospital, north Cambridgeshire, for 25 years, has been a leading voice in pathology and has championed reforms to death certification processes.

As president of the Royal College of Pathologists she set up National Pathology Week and International Pathology Day to increase public engagement with pathology.
