Government urges hospitals to prioritise patient safety as winter pressures grow

The government has held an urgent meeting with trust bosses to address the record pressures in emergency care as respiratory illnesses take their toll.

Health and social care secretary Wes Streeting told the “specially convened” meeting with NHS England chief executive Amanda Pritchard and other trust leads that patient safety was the priority.
