GP contract: What’s been agreed for 2025-26?

The British Medical Association has released details of the 2025-26 contract after agreeing in principle with the government’s proposed amendments.

The BMA’s GP Committee for England (GPCE) announced on Friday it had accepted the changes to the new general medical services contract following 2 months of negotiations.

The government has said the “landmark agreement” will see a total investment of £13.2 billion.

What else do we know about the funding changes?

A total of £969 million new investment, £80 million of which will go to the e-Referral Service (e-RS) advice and guidance between GPs and consultants and £889 million to additional core contract funding.

Almost £800 million of national funding will go into the global sum, to cover staff and premises expenses, and patient list growth. This will increase the global sum per weighted patient to £121.90.
