‘Heroic’ NHS staff praised for ‘swiftly’ protecting patients from major fire

An NHS hospital has paid tribute to the “heroic efforts” of staff who swiftly moved hundreds of patients to safety after a fire broke out.

Some 200 patients needed to be evacuated after the fire began in the endoscopy unit at University Hospital Southampton early on Sunday morning.
