A locum consultant has been removed from the medical register after failing to disclose to a new employer that she had been demoted to registrar because of concerns about her practice.

In October 2022 Dr Surrayya Kamal Najeeb was told there were concerns about her ability to work as a consultant at Blackpool Teaching Hospital (BTH).

A month later, she applied to be a locum consultant at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King’s Lynn, without telling the new employer of the concerns about her performance or that she had been demoted to registrar.

Najeeb also did not disclose to QEH that she had failed her advanced cardiovascular life support course (ACLS) two days before her interview.

'Unacceptable' performance

In December 2023, QEH questioned if she knew of any concerns about her ability to work as a consultant. The tribunal found Najeeb was dishonest as she misled her employer by denying any change in job role at the previous trust.
