NHS buildings ‘falling apart’ as maintenance backlog jumps to almost £14bn

The safety of patients and staff is being put at risk by “falling apart” NHS buildings, leaders have warned, as figures show the maintenance bill has jumped a fifth to almost £14 billion.

The cost to eradicate the backlog of NHS repairs in England now stands at £13.8 billion, up 19% from £11.6 billion the previous year.
