Nobel prize awarded to mRNA Covid vaccine scientists

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been jointly awarded to two scientists who made discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.

Professor Katalin Kariko and Professor Drew Weissman, who met at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1990s, will share the prize.
