Nottinghamshire GPs appeal to MPs for support

Nottinghamshire’s Local Medical Committee (NLMC) has written to MPs asking for support for general practice.

In a letter to all 11 of Nottinghamshire’s Westminster representatives, NLMC said it would appreciate meetings to plan how to “ensure that we meet the reasonable needs of our local communities.”

The appeal also noted the desire to “ensure that politically the general practice situation is well-known and understood”, which would ideally include roundtable or localised discussions.

At the time of writing, six MPs had agreed to the idea of a roundtable session.
They include Steve Yemm, MP for Mansfield, who has “offered to meet with Nottinghamshire LMC as soon as practically possible to work together to find a practical solution to the challenges general practice faces across Mansfield and Nottinghamshire.”

He told Doctors.net.uk: “Well-funded, well-functioning general practice is critical to the wider model of our NHS. One of my 5 key pledges to the people of Mansfield during my election campaign was to help rebuild the NHS, cut waiting times and make it fit for the future locally, with better community care for a healthier community across Mansfield and Warsop.
