Organised sport in childhood may protect against mental ill health - study

Taking part in organised sport in childhood may protect against the development of mental illness, particularly in boys, a large study has found.

A study of 16,000 children found that 11-year-old boys had a decreased risk of subsequent depression by almost 50% for every extra hour per week of participation in organised sports.
