A Palestinian doctor has been arrested over alleged “grossly offensive and antisemitic” comments made at a protest and online.
Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, 31, was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of misusing a public communications network, sending malicious communications and stirring up racial hatred.
Dr Aladwan, a trainee trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, was investigated by an interim orders medical tribunal last month over her social media posts.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) had ruled it would not impose interim restrictions on Dr Aladwan’s registration, saying it did not believe the complaints against her were “sufficient to establish that there may be a real risk to patients”.
Earlier this month, the General Medical Council (GMC) re-referred Dr Aladwan for another interim orders tribunal while it continues its investigation into her.
Dr Aladwan’s lawyer previously told the MPTS she is exercising her freedom of speech to oppose crimes by Israel, including those identified by the United Nations.
