PAs play a ‘crucial role’ in primary care, says GMC

Physician associates have a future in primary care helping GPs struggling with “unsustainable demand for care”, the General Medical Council has said.

GMC chair Professor Dame Carrie MacEwen told an audience of GPs this week that the role can help free up doctors’ time – in an apparent challenge to the Royal College of General Practitioners opposition to expanding the use of PAs.
