Prostate cancer exam ‘not sufficient’

The digital rectal exam, which is commonly used to check for prostate cancer, is not sufficient by itself to detect early disease, according to a new German study.

The PROBASE trial, coordinated at the German Cancer Research Centre (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) in Heidelberg, says other testing methods should be used in routine screening instead.
