Reimbursement of medical college exam fees to go live ‘in a few weeks’

Doctors taking medical exams should be able to claim reimbursement within weeks under a new system that was agreed in the deal to end strike action.

A full list of exams for which doctors in training will be able to claim reimbursement has now been published by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC).

Resident doctors and locally employed doctors working in England will be able to claim reimbursement for the first two sittings of all exams required to achieve a Completion of Clinical Training certificate taken after 1 April.

It comes after the deal the British Medical Association (BMA) did with the government and medical colleges to end long-running resident doctor strike action earlier this year.

Doctors who are newly diagnosed with a condition which requires reasonable adjustments to be made will be also able to claim reimbursement of the first two sittings if their college supports a ‘reset’ of exam attempts in their case.
