A resident doctor has received a 12-month suspension for falsely claiming to have completed training for her portfolio when she was preparing for her wedding.

Cardiology trainee Dr Preethi Suresh scanned two QR codes to register her in person attendance at the beginning and end of the session. She then uploaded her attendance certificate to her training e-portfolio, despite booking time off and not being present.

In March 2024, Suresh was in her seventh year of specialty training. She initially told her deanery she had not claimed any continuing professional development points for the false certificate of attendance but later admitted uploading it to her portfolio.

Concerned over her dishonesty, East of England Cardiology referred the matter to the General Medical Council.

The resident doctor, working at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, needed to confirm her attendance at around 60% of the sessions to fulfil the Annual Review of Competence Progression process.
