Resistance already found to one of newest antibiotics, UKHSA warns

Some bacteria have already become resistant to one of the newest antibiotics used in the NHS, the UK Health Security Agency has warned.

A study looking at routine surveillance data from 2016-2020 showed that 6.3% of samples showed resistance to ceftazidime/avibactam – one of the last lines of defence for the most serious infections.
