Risk of prostate cancer overdiagnosis from PSA screening doubles after age 70

Rates of overdiagnosis of prostate cancer through prostate-specific antigen screening are low in younger men but rise sharply with age, according to new research.

The study, which aimed to estimate the impact of age on overdiagnosis of prostate cancer 15 years after screening stops, looked at long-term follow-up data from the UK CAP (Cluster Randomised Trial of PSA Testing for Prostate cancer) trial, alongside English male mortality rates.
