Risk tools for seriously unwell children ‘unsuitable for general practice’

Risk tools used in hospital to identify seriously unwell children do not work in general practice, researchers have found.

When used in primary care, both the Liverpool quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (LqSOFA) and Paediatric Early Warning System (PEWS) cannot accurately detect who might be at risk of admission to hospital.
