A “predatory” senior cardiothoracic surgeon convicted of sexual offences against junior members of staff has been struck off.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found that Dr Amal Krishna Bose’s 12 convictions for sexual assaults on female colleagues were “fundamentally incompatible” with continued registration.
Last year Bose, who was the head of the cardiac department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, was jailed for six years for sexually assaulting five members of staff at the hospital between August 2017 and December 2022.
The consultant cardiothoracic surgeon’s previously unblemished 30-year career and excellent surgical skills did not diminish the seriousness of his conviction, the tribunal determined.
It referenced the judge’s comments, who found Bose exhibited “predatory behaviour” targeting colleagues, repeatedly subjecting them to unwanted attention and derogatory remarks in the workplace.
Representing the General Medical Council, Charles Garside KC said Bose had committed a series of sexually motivated assaults that only stopped when one victim reported him.
