Surgical tourism complications ‘costing NHS up to £20,000 per patient’

Complications from cosmetic and obesity surgery abroad may be costing the NHS up to £20,000 per patient, analysis suggests.

A rapid review of “surgical tourism” found people can spend several weeks in NHS hospitals when they return home with complications from having procedures such as bariatric surgery, abdominoplasty and breast enlargement.
