Climate activist Dr Sarah Benn, who was suspended following a tribunal after repeatedly breaking the law during protests, has spoken to Doctors.net.uk about why she felt compelled to act, and why she thinks the fitness-to-practise rules need review.

The retired GP from Birmingham was arrested several times after breaking an injunction by taking part in peaceful demonstrations at the Kingsbury oil terminal in Warwickshire in 2022.

The independent Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) imposed a 5-month suspension on Tuesday after ruling that her “fitness to practise was impaired by reason of misconduct”, but she still faces the possibility of being permanently erased from the medical register.
