Consultant struck off for taking locum shifts while contracted to work at own trust

Thousands of readers were interested by this July tribunal of a consultant who was struck off the medical register after taking more than 100 locum shifts when he was contracted to work at his employing trust.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found that between 2019 and 2022 the acute medicine consultant worked 116 locum shifts at other hospitals when he should have been working for his trust.

The GMC said he mainly did the shifts when he was meant to be working from home, and he took public money that he was not “entitled to”.
