Thrombosis 'now the leading cause of maternal death'

"Thrombosis and thromboembolism is now the leading cause of maternal death in the UK" among pregnant women and new mothers during pregnancy and the 6 weeks afterwards, according to a new health surveillance report.

Doctors have been advised to be on alert for thrombosis in patients – amid concern over an overall 20-year high in maternal deaths.
