Mark Fisher CBE, chief executive of NHS Greater Manchester, has been suspended from his role pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the NHS has confirmed.
Mr Fisher, who leads the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board was suspended earlier this week on what the NHS described as a "precautionary basis". The suspension follows procedures under the organisation's whistleblowing, HR and governance frameworks.
An NHS Greater Manchester spokesperson said: "We can confirm that chief executive, Mark Fisher, is currently suspended on a precautionary basis whilst an internal process takes place in accordance with our whistleblowing, HR and governance frameworks.
"Given no findings have been made at this stage it is essential that no assumptions are drawn. Due to confidentiality and fairness to all parties we are unable to comment further at this time."
No details regarding the reasons for the suspension have been disclosed.
Interim leadership arrangements are now in place, with deputy chief Executive Colin Scales assuming responsibility during Mr Fisher's absence.
