Topiramate use in women of childbearing age tightened by regulator

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has introduced tougher safety measures for the prescribing of epilepsy and migraine treatment topiramate in women of childbearing age.

Under the new rules, topiramate (Topamax) should not be prescribed to treat epilepsy during pregnancy unless there is no suitable alternative treatment.
