Two more salmonella clusters as search for source continues

Two more clusters of salmonella have been identified by the UK Health Security Agency since the outbreak was confirmed.

There have been two deaths linked to the current outbreak and more than 500 confirmed cases so far.

The source is still to be confirmed but evidence suggests it may be linked to imported eggs, the UKHSA said.

At the end of August, the agency confirmed the emergence of two further clusters that are genetically distinct from the original cluster but are part of the same family.

As of 1 September, there have been 305 confirmed cases and one death linked to the t5.9411 cluster, 182 confirmed cases and no deaths linked to the t0.24068 cluster and 41 confirmed cases and one death linked to the t5.9765 cluster.

The clusters are all in England, and are associated with eating out at small cafés, restaurants and takeaway businesses.

Despite identifying two more clusters the risk to the public remains low, the agency said.
