Urate therapy safe for gout patients with kidney disease, study finds

Patients with gout can safely be given urate-lowering therapy to guideline targets even if they have impaired kidney function, research has suggested.

The study of 14,792 participants found that lowering urate "was not associated with an increased risk of severe or end-stage kidney disease".1
