Domestic violence affecting doctors and other healthcare professionals is rising. Doctors.net.uk examines the worrying trend and why routine workplace aggression may be part of the problem.

In the past five years, the number of doctors seeking help for domestic abuse has risen sharply. Until recently, the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund, a charity that provides support services for medical staff, only occasionally had healthcare professionals seeking help for domestic abuse. Last year these requests make up 6% of their total caseload.
