Wider use of newer diabetes drugs ‘could prevent 20,000 deaths a year’

A newer class of type 2 diabetes drugs expected to be recommended for wider NHS use this month could save thousands of lives a year, research has shown.

Draft guidance published by NICE in August proposed SGLT-2 inhibitors are used alongside metformin as a first-line treatment for people with type 2 diabetes.
