Woman becomes longest survivor of heart and lung transplant

The longest known combined heart and lung transplant recipient in the UK has celebrated 38 years since her operation in “testament to the skill” of NHS teams.

Katie Mitchell celebrated the anniversary of her transplant, which took place at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in September 1987. She passed the previous record in the summer.
